HERE COMES THE OCEAN

We used to go dancing together, days of youth and sunshine left in the sand, our time of surf-bathing and beer — and summer everywhere.

I remember you, plunging into the sweeping arms of the Queensland swell, swallowed by the submarine flesh of the Pacific Ocean. Echoes of uncoiling waves breaking the skin of the Moolloollaba Bay.





It took but a fragment of time when you entered the room limbs like spider webs and eyes sharp as razors set high above the saline, windswept cliffs of your cheekbones. Before my eyes had time to focus on your caramel skin, I recognized the boy I once had known.
