LUZERN CHAPEL BRIDGE, SWITZERLAND
by Michelle Bienias

What: Chapel Bridge (Kapellbruecke)
Although Luzern is a touristy, its many charms do justify a visit of at least a day or two to this quintessential Swiss city.

While there, you should visit at least one of its two famed medieval covered bridges across the Reuss River. Chapel bridge is located near the junction of the river and Lake Lucerne, bending as it leaves the shore and then angling across the river past a stone water tower.

It was built in 1333 and is 200 meters in length and features 120 captioned triangular paintings from the early 1500s that chronicle the city’s history. The bridge was nearly destroyed in a 1993 fire and has been restored.
