MAN IN A BUBBLE
by Michelle Bienias

Where: Farm Cove, Sydney Harbour, Australia

Who/What: Chinese performance artist Zhu Ming inside a giant transparent bubble.

When: Opening week of the Museum of Contemporary Art’s ‘Liquid Sea’ exhibition, Sunday, March 9, 2003

How: Photographer Peter Murphy, of Peter Murphy’s Panoramic VR Weblog, says:
“This panorama was shot handheld over my head -- overhead has distinct advantages: higher viewpoint, more to see, obviously ... but also, the camera is not in ones way, one can see what is happening … also in close crowd scenes (not so applicable here) it is much less obtrusive than having the camera pointed directly at someone - people seem to think that if the camera is well above them you are not recording them, that you are trying to photograph over their heads. Also with the camera up high there are fewer details close to the camera so nodal errors are less significant than they might otherwise be.”
