TOMB OF DOM PERIGNON
VR panorama by Laurent Thion
by Michelle Bienias

Dom Perignon, born in 1640, was a Benedictine monk and noted winemaker often credited with inventing champagne while overseeing the vineyard of the monastery of Hautvillers. Perignon died in 1715 and was buried at Hautvillers, where the church and tomb remain to this day. Moet et Chandon bought the land in 1794 and borrowed the monk’s name for their prestige Champagne in 1921,

Laurent Thion of www.ecliptique.com shot this VR on May 4, 2003. The pano is comprised of six shots taken with a Coolpix 5000 and a FC-E8 fisheye lens. Laurent says that when it’s possible he uses a lighting support (Manfrotto 156blb) with a little ball head and a homemade bracket, otherwise, he works with only a spirit level.
