Given the importance of the Arounder Milan project, we asked Riccardo Studer, our preferred sound consultant, to lead the production of the spoken texts required by the concept.

For the Galleria panorama, Riccardo went to the Galleria in Milan and recorded the audio there using a DAT TCD-D3 Sony and Sony micorphone ECM-959. He made minor edits to keep the sound as realistic as possible.

The spoken text recording session took place the 13th of May and lasted the whole day. We began recording with the English version; this phase had six ears monitoring it: Daniel for the english intonations, Riccardo for technical tidyness and Marco controlling the text adherence. After three hours we were done and Riccardo could begin the editing and the mastering of the files.

The original takes needed some equalization, a reasonable quantity of De-Essing and a medium-heavy compression, which took about two hours. Riccardo took a break and was replaced by Sandro for the recording of the Italian version. Here Federico watched for the intonation while Marco controlled the text adherence. We also employed three hours for these recordings which were finally edited and mastered adapting the parameters to the different voice characters.

An important part of the sound production was the site usability test, where we checked the understandability and quality of the speech coming from computer loudspeakers. This test was useful to make some fine corrections - mainly on the equalization - to the files.
