Where: Al-Madinah Al-Munawarah, Saudia Arabia
What: The Prophet’s Mosque - the Final Resting Place of the Messenger of Allah.
This is the first virtual tour of the Prophet's Mosque (Masjid Al Nabawi), the second most important place of worship for Muslims around the world, after the Grand Mosque (Al-Haram), in Makkah Al-Mukarramah. Millions of Muslims visit the Mosque each year, to worship, to visit the Prophet's grave, and to see the city that gave birth to Islam.

click here to view fullscreenThe Prophet’s Mosque was the first institution to be built following Prophet Muhammad's migration in 622 AD from Makkah, where he was born, to the town of Yathrib, which became known as 'Al-Madinah an-Nabi", or 'City of the Prophet'. Today the mosque is one hundred times the size it was when the Prophet first established it and can accommodate more than half a million worshipers.
Although photography is strictly forbidden at the mosque, Mahmood ul Rashid managed to capture this pano as people were leaving the mosque after performing Asar prayers.
Why: Khan traveled 5500 km round trip with his wife and two daughters from their home in Dubai to Makkah to perform Umrah, after which they traveled to Madinah, where they visited the final resting place of the Holy Prophet.
How:
Equipment - Canon 300D, Sigma 8mm fish eye lens. “After five years in the panoramic field this is the first time I shot these images with a hand held camera,” Khan says. “I was not sure that the result would be this nice.”
Software - Realviz Stitcher 4.0, Adobe Photoshop 7.0, Apple QuickTime Pro 6.5 and Adobe Golive 5.0 for web design.

- "If Mohammed is buried at that Mosque, then wouldn't that disprove the subsquent post-Koranic claims that Mohammed ascended to heaven on a horse? Who would you believe--the folks who actually buried him--and built the mosque for his grave, or the folks who created a tale later on?"
