When: January 20, 2006

Where: On a road between the small town of Orneta and the village of Krzykaly in North Poland, about 120 km south of Gdansk and about 50 km north of Olsztyn.

What: A man on bicycle cycles home through a winter wonderland of trees covered with rime in the –20 Celsius temperature. (Rime ice is a white ice that forms when the water droplets in fog freeze to the outer surfaces of objects, such as on trees atop mountains and ridges in winter, when low-hanging clouds cause freezing fog. This fog freezes to the windward side of tree branches, buildings, and any other solid object. Sometimes the rime ice takes on a feathery look, and looks very much like "snow feathers".)

How: “I used the Canon 20D and the Russian cheap lens Zenitar 16mm/2.8,” says Sklodowski, “a homemade panoramic head and very warm gloves! You have to be very careful when the cars cannot stop on the ice frozen road. Also do not touch metal parts of head or tripod. I’ve made 22 shots 10 around, five up, five down, bottom and nadir. ”
