Who: Andrey Ilyin When: October 15th, 2005 Where: The Red Square is well known around the World, so no wonder that Andrey decided to add this panorama to his collection of Moscow views. St. Basil's cathedral, listed among UNESCO World Heritage sites, is a real pearl, prominent on the Red Square. That's why he placed it in the main focus of the panorama. On the right side of the cathedral you can see the walls of the Kremlin and one of it's most important towers - Spasskaya. Further to the right the Mausoleum, the State Historical Museum and the GUM (department store). click here to view Red Square Moscow Why: At the time Andrey was shooting panos without any commercial purpose. He strongly believes that what makes spherical panoramas so interesting is that they posses a unique collection of visual qualities, requiring a more complex approach then traditional photography. He always believed in shooting high quality content, and when his collection of VR's has formed the core content for moscow.360.cities.net, he knew he was right. 360cities.net, is a rapidly growing project initiated by Jeffery Martin, an energetic VR photographer working in Prague. How: Andrey chose the position for his tripod right over the wide white stripes on the ground so that it helped to balance the overall composition of the panoramic image. He used the following equipment: Nikon D70, Nikkor 10.5, Manfrotto 055 tripod and his self made panoramic head. Almost standard software package - PTGui and Adobe Photoshop, Pano2QTVR (for current re-authored version), Silkypix as a RAW convertor. Andrey Ilyin, is a Moscow based photographer specializing in the creation of high-quality spherical panoramas for multimedia, educational, cultural, and business projects. He shoots for clients from various industries from automotive to real estate, but his main hopes for professional success lies on the project 360cities.net - which in his view, is simultaneously a great way to monetize his collection of panoramas, a nice tool to attract new clients and a god way to make his professional services known to a larger public.
