One of the world's major rivers, the Mekong is estimated as being 4,880 km long, hence the 11th longest one, crossing through the Tibetan plateau, China, Burma, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam.

Mouthtosource has an ambitious program: photographing it all. The operation has been accomplished for a stretch of 2,100 kms until now...offering full screen QTVRs and plentiful of information about the life and the natural aspects related to the river.

The Mekong (whose name means "the mother of all rivers") offers a variety of 1200 species of fish, which are one of the main factors of the economic activities all along its banks and important part of the locals' diet. For its biodiversity, the Mekong can be divided in two main biotopic areas: the Upper and the Lower Mekong.
The first one has neutral waters, is relatively clears and is fast flowing. Loaches, sucker catfish, hillstream loach are among the dominant species. The Lower Mekong - which starts at the Burma Thai Laos borders, has more turbid waters and a different fauna, with carps, catfishes and murrels. Dams and flood control put in danger several species of large fishes, such as the Giant River Carp, the Giant Pangasium and the Siamese giant carp, along with the Mekong Giant Catfish, the Irrawaddy dolphin and the Siamese crocodile.

Mouthtosource was created by Paul Steward, a freelance panoramic photographer, living in Phnom Pehn, Cambodia.The Mekong is his biggest project until now, but his dream is blogging and hosting all the rivers around the world, so that one can see the entire globe, via water system.
