Munich's Olympia Park in June 2008 The place of the 1972 Olympic Games. by Sandra Petrini Built to host 1972 Olympic Games, the Olympia Park was designed with some principles on mind: the Park had to represent either a green option or a positive attitude toward technology. The elements found perfect integration in Günter Behnisch and Günter Grzimek's masterplans and should have furtherly blended into the positive attitude of the games. Not everything went as expected: the events were tarnished by Black September's Israeli athletes' hostage taking, which ended in the death of 17 people. Even though the tragic happenings, today, the place is buzzing with life. The village where the athletes were living is a residential area, the media center has been turned into a shopping center, the stadiums host events all the year long and, from the Communication tower - which holds a turning platform, with a restaurant within - there is an outstanding view of the area. click here to view Munich's Olympia Park Photographer: Willy Kaemena. Where: Munich, Germany. When: June 2008. Why: To document the site for his homepage. Technical Details: the panorama appears as being an aerial shot, but it is not, it is taken from the Olympia Tower. To my questioning, Willy answered "it is SOOOO easy to do that. It was even handheld. without alignment without nodalpoint. I took only 22 shots through the grades of the visitor platform of the tower holding the camera outside".You can see another panorama with the tower in the image here. Willy Kaemena is an engineer now on retirement. During his career, he lived in many countries, where he was responsible for managing his company's projects. Passionate about trains and about VR photography, he has an outstanding homepage with hundreds of panoramic images taken on locomotives, subways and monorails.
