In the first week of August this year, many of the best and brightest minds from the VR world will descend upon Prague.Conference: Monday 4th August - Thursday 7th August 2008
Excursion: Thursday 7th August to Sunday 10th August 2008
Known as "the city of a hundred spires", this year's Panotools Meeting promises to bring together, for the 6th time, many of the world's pioneers and heroes of the VR photography world, including Helmut Dersch (the creator of panotools), Michel Thoby (the world's favorite investigative lens vandal), Pablo d'Angelo (creator of Hugin), Luca Vascon (afficionado), Matthias Taugwalder (mountain peak gigapixels), Ian Wood, Thomas Rauscher (creator of Pano2VR), Aldo Hoeben (inventor and creator of spi-V), and many others.
The conference itself will be held in FAMU (University of Film and Photography, Prague) which is an integral part of The Academy of Performing Arts, which has been found after the World War 2 in 1946. It is one of the oldest film schools in Europe, which kept its tradition even during the difficult time of communist regime.
At Prague360 you can take a virtual tour of the university.
As always, attendance is free-of-charge. Hotel space can be a problem in Prague, so attendees are encouraged to sign up as early as possible.
The presentation schedule is still months away from being finalized, but we can already look forward to a demo by Helmut Dersch of his new stitching engine on the Playstation 3, as well as presentations from Thomas Rauscher, Aldo Hoeben, Ian Wood, and others.
Anyone in Europe (or the rest of the world, for that matter) with an interest in VR photography and panoramas is encouraged to come to Prague for this year's panotools meeting. While Prague is no longer the "cheap" deal it may have been in the past, it is still very affordable, and with a low-cost airline (easyjet, smartwings, sky europe, jet2...) it's possible to fly here from most cities in europe very cheaply.
You can join the Panotools Meeting yahoo group here.
I look forward to seeing everyone soon!
